Cotton Futures Performance

On Friday, the cotton market remained largely flat after a brief uptick earlier in the session. Most contracts moved only a few points, with the October 2026 contract posting a 56‑point gain. The December 2026 contract slipped 7 points, while the March 2027 contract edged up by a single point.

Oil prices slipped 5 cents, whereas the U.S. dollar index climbed 0.073 points.

Export Commitments and Market Outlook

Thursday’s export data for the 2026/27 season revealed commitments of 4.235 million bushels (RB), a 31% increase over the same period last year. This figure represents 37% of the USDA’s overall export projection and falls short of the 43% average sales pace but outpaces last year’s 29% pace.

The higher commitments suggest a modest uptick in demand, although they still lag behind historical averages.

Supply Metrics and Auction Results

The Cotlook A Index rebounded 300 points on August 20, reaching 98.90 cents. Certified cotton stocks reported by ICE remained unchanged, standing at 70,643 bales.

In the Seam auction held on August 20, only 55 bales were sold at a price of 81.6 cents per pound. The Adjusted World Price was increased by 143 points, bringing it to 69.62 cents per pound.

  • Dec 26 Cotton: 88.27 cents, down 7 points

These figures illustrate the market’s relative stability, with only the October contract showing a notable rise.

Cotton futures traded in a narrow range on Friday, reflecting a market that is cautiously awaiting further data on supply and demand. Export commitments have risen, indicating a potential uptick in global demand, while supply metrics remain steady. Traders should monitor upcoming auctions and USDA projections for signals that could shift the market.
