Axi Links MetaTrader 5 to Anthropic's Claude for Natural-Language Trading
Axi announced on Wednesday that qualifying clients can now link their MetaTrader 5 (MT5) accounts to Claude, the AI assistant developed by Anthropic, and use the chat interface to carry out trading actions. The connection is built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard designed to let AI tools interface with external data sources and services. The broker is currently labelling the service as being in alpha testing.
According to the connector's documentation, users can pull live market quotes, open new positions, modify or close existing ones, set pending orders, and adjust stop-loss and take-profit levels—all through conversational prompts in Claude. The integration rides on MT5, the multi-asset platform developed by MetaQuotes, which introduced native AI-agent and MCP support in a beta release back in July.
Zero-Cost AI Access Sets Axi Apart from Rivals
One of the more notable aspects of the rollout is the absence of any additional fee on the AI side. Axi confirms the connector operates under Claude's free tier, which permits a single custom connector. By comparison, TradeStation's MCP integration demands a paid Claude Pro subscription on top of a minimum account balance of $10,000.
The broker-announcement also highlights a broader wave of AI-trading features rolling out across the industry. Interactive Brokers launched a setup in June that lets Claude draft trades in equities and ETFs, though every order still requires manual sign-off before execution. ThinkMarkets unveiled its ChelseaAI server the same month, enabling AI models to place orders on the ThinkTrader platform while explicitly blocking any access to client funds. Match-Trade opened its MCP endpoint to retail traders on 5 October, giving compatible clients the option to mandate a per-action approval. At the opposite end of the spectrum, CMC Markets has kept its ChatGPT link for UK-based clients strictly read-only; the connection cannot execute trades, alter orders, or transfer money.
Leverate has embedded a similar confirmation loop into its own product, known as MCP for Traders. The system restates each proposed order and waits for an affirmative response in the trader's AI application before proceeding, and brokers must explicitly toggle the feature on for their clients.
Human Approval Remains a Hard Requirement
Axi's own connector website states that no trade or order action will be sent to the market without the client's explicit approval in the chat window. The broker's help centre goes further, clarifying that Claude "is not an automated strategy or Expert Advisor (EA)." In practice, this means the assistant will only act when a client issues a request, unless the user has pre-configured a particular action to "Always allow" within Claude's permission settings.
Santiago Vazquez-Munoz, Axi's Global Head of Sales, framed the move as part of a wider shift: "AI is creating new opportunities to rethink how traders interact with technology," he said in the announcement.
Eligibility, Setup, and Risk Disclaimers
Not every Axi account is eligible. The connector works only with active MT5 accounts, whether or not they have completed identity verification. Accounts that operate solely on MT4 or on Axi's proprietary trading platform cannot be linked.
To establish the connection, clients add Axi as a custom connector inside Claude, input the broker's MCP address, and grant access by logging in with their Axi credentials. The broker's support team can walk clients through the steps but cannot perform the setup on their behalf.
Axi's help centre also includes standard risk language: Claude is not a financial advisor, its responses do not constitute trade recommendations, and the integration does not eliminate market risk. Traders remain fully responsible for every decision they make through the interface.
